No, that's not a goodbye to Epic's live-service juggernaut (a.k.a. the reason so many games these days are sent out to die). Instead, it's a pithy summary of Concord's spectacular fall from... well, it never really had time to achieve a state of grace. Instead, Concord blazed into the world in a firestorm of poor reviews and abysmal sales and extinguished itself only two weeks after launch.
Even by the mayfly standards of live-service games, Concord's spectacularly brief shelf-life stands out. Not least because of the amount of money Sony burned in this particular dumpster fire, with Concord reportedly losing anywhere from $200-400 million.
Concord was, and will forever be remembered as, one of the biggest financial disasters in gaming history, and should act as a lesson to every video game publisher to stop chasing the Holy Grail that is live-service gaming. For every studio that does an Indiana Jones and succeeds in their quest, there are dozens more whose efforts result in them crumbling into dust.
