The Thieves' Guild is a powerful faction in Skyrim, although its strength is waning by the time the Dragonborn shows up in Riften. Soon after entering the city gates, Brynjolf will appear and when spoken to he will extend an invitation to join him on a job. Accepting the offer will start the player on a long journey to reinvigorate the Thieves Guild.

Upon joining the Guild, the Dragonborn will have frequent communication with Brynjolf, most often for the purpose of receiving assignments. Some tasks are more difficult than others, but most are quite entertaining and worthwhile. There is often a lot of money to be made and skills to upgrade.

One of the most memorable things about Brynjolf is his voice, which is smooth and intriguing. He's voiced by Robin Atkin Downes, who's somewhat of a legend in the voice-acting industry. Everything Brynjolf says immediately sounds more interesting that what most other characters talk about, thanks to Downes' incredible performance.
