3. Every Moment in Dark Souls (Xbox 360, PS3)

Ive heard Dark Souls and its predecessor Demon Souls (which Ive admittedly never played) described as one of the greatest modern RPG series available. From my experience of Namco Bandais vast action role-player, Id say its probably one of the most masochistic. Dark Souls is a game in which the first enemies outside of the tutorial represent a tougher fight than most modern games final bosses. Prepare to die. A lot. And when youve died, died again and died some more youll eventually scrape past the part you were stuck on. Only to discover it just keeps getting harder. Eventually it felt more like work than play, and I became convinced that continued exposure would lead to an angry tumor somewhere in the emotion-centre of brain as a result of overuse. I dont actually know to this day how anyone has had the drive and the personal leadership to complete Dark Souls and if you have, youve already earned my respect. Focus that energy on your career, you'll be a millionaire within the week. For modern pad-destroying frustration look no further than Dark Souls; its the gaming equivalent of having a dominatrix crush your nuts in a vice for pleasure.
