7. Duke Nukem

There once was a time when Duke Nukem was a much loved and cherished video game icon. He was the ultimate representation of hyper-masculinity, and for a time his unrestrained machismo and raunchy attitude attracted a large following.

However, after a long period of nothing, Duke Nukem Forever was released to little fanfare, and while gamers had moved on, Duke Nukem had not, and the result is a character that, in hindsight, offers almost nothing in the way or substance or humor. Whether Duke Nukem appeals to your sensibility or not, the fact is that he deserves to be hated: his attitude and quips are at the level of an immature 12 year old boy.

He has been accused of being misogynistic and sexist in nature, of course, but really what it ultimately comes down to is that he just isn't very compelling or funny. His character remains dated and lacks any genuine personality outside of being politically incorrect and his greatest sin is being boring. Perhaps it could be argued that Duke Nukem is more divisive than he is hated, but those that hate him really hate him.

In a world were every statement and belief is scrutinized by those waiting to be offended, Duke Nukem is practically a lamb to the slaughter. It'€™s no wonder his franchise is finished barring some unforeseen resurrection.
