10 Most Heart-Wrenching Moments in Gaming

3. To The Moon - The Bit Between Installing It And The Credits

1374 I don't even know where to start with this game, the entire thing was depressing. Steam were offering it on sale and it looked interesting enough so I plopped it in the basket. I didn't even play it when I purchased it, merely installed it and let it gather dust. I wasn't impressed at first, but when you finally get into the meaty bit of the story and start to go through John's memories it plays out pretty much as Up in reverse. There's so much mystery in his relationship with his wife River and when you do finally see them back together it hits you, none of this is real. It's all just a simulation, merely the memories of a dying man being experienced by some scientists going through his memories. No matter what bond you make with the people in John's life, it hits you at the end that they were all part of a simulation to give John a happy thought before he dies.
