Granted it's still an open-world, third-person, action role-playing game, but after the completion of Killzone 3, developer Guerilla wanted to pursue the creation of a new world, which ended up being Horizon Zero Dawn.

Seeing you play as a tribal hunter-gatherer in a world overtaken by A.I. lifeforms and mechanical animals, its conception was considered "the most risky" of all the ideas Guerilla conjured up, but in the long run, it's seemingly paid off as the team won the "Best Original Game" at both 2015 and 2016's E3 showcases.

Thankfully, we're relatively close to release, with a February 28th date for North America, March 1st for Europe and March 3rd for the UK.
