10 Most Hilarious Instances Of Video Game Censorship
7. From Hell To Tropical Island - Um Jammer Lammy
Generally speaking, religious themes aren't the best thing to put in your game, as they tend to cause a lot of controversy in certain communities. This is especially true if the religious theme you chose to include is a scene of a young girl dying and getting sent to hell.
The rhythm game Um Jammer Lammy, just like its predecessor Parappa, is a fever dream of weird ideas. In stage six, the main character Lammy dies by slipping on a banana peel, and her soul gets transported to hell, where she needs to perform a sick guitar solo for an angry demon lady.
It shouldn't come as a shock that this concept wasn't really well-received in America, which is why the US release of Um Jammer Lammy makes heavy and hilarious changes to the scene. Instead of dying, Lammy catapults herself into the stratosphere and starts orbiting around the planet so fast that she causes time to go backwards (you know, like in Superman). When she finally lands back on Earth, she ends up in the past, where her town has been reverted to a volcanic island.
If you think that makes no sense, it's probably because it doesn't.
