10 Most Iconic Opening Sequences In Video Game History

5. Resident Evil

Resident Evil Live Action Intro
Capcom

The premise of the very first Resident Evil is classic survival horror. In response to a string of murders around Raccoon City, members of the special forces division S.T.A.R.S. are sent to investigate the forest of the surrounding area. There they get attacked by ferocious zombie dogs and are forced to take refuge in a nearby mansion, upon which they are forced to regroup and figure out the source of the monsters that populate it.

The opening sequence has become notorious within the video game industry for being charmingly cheesy. The use of live action actors, costumes, and props gives the entire scene an especially cheap and thrown together feel. The acting and voice over work in particular is hilariously bad, leading to some of the cringiest - and thus insanely memorable - lines youll ever hear.

Resident Evils first moments represents a time when the franchise straddled the line between genuine horror and B-movie schlock, while somehow managing to nail both with pinpoint accuracy. It so delightfully amateurish many cant help but have affection for it, despite its deficiencies. Perhaps more importantly, it made the game stand out from many of the other horror games available at the time. It has since become synonymous with the Resident Evil franchise and is one of its most enduring scenes.
