10 Most Iconic Swords In Gaming History

4. Buster Sword

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Cloud
Square Enix

Is the Buster Sword just a really big sword? Okay, sure. Does the Final Fantasy series have more powerful swords? Again, probably, yeah. But is there any sword that edges out the Buster Sword for its icon status? Not a chance.

You might have a Final Fantasy protagonist you like better than Cloud and there might be a sword you prefer wielding, but the spikey haired brooder and his definitely-not-compensating-for-anything weapon are surely the front and centre mascots of the blockbuster franchise.

Back and looking better than ever in the Final Fantasy VII Remake, the Buster Sword comes part and parcel with Cloud’s brutal Limit Break attacks, his Omnislash ultimate, and the built in power of its raw stats. While there is a temptation to swap it out for the handful of swords which outclass the weapon in stats or abilities, the charm of our reluctant hero alongside his deeply unique larger-than-life weapon is too glee-inducing to deny.
