10 Most Iconic Weapons in Video Game History

8. Chainsaw - Doom Series

When Doom came out in 1993, society as a collective whole shit one continent-sized brick. It was called all sorts by its leagues of angry boycotters, thanks to its diabolic subtext and its insanely high levels of gore, including being labelled a €œMass Murder Simulator€ by murder psychology specialist David Grossman. With Doom, Id Software effectively invented the concept of a Chainsaw as a video game melee weapon, and though we may have seen it many times since, we owe it to them entirely. Nothing is quite as sickly satisfying as cutting a room full of Hell-spawn beasts down to about half of their original size without wasting a single bullet. This guy knows exactly what I mean: http://youtu.be/aEp084OvGfw The Chainsaw has been iconic to film for many years, thanks to several different movies €“ Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Evil Dead, Scarface, to name but a few €“ and now thanks to Doom, it€™s just about as iconic in the gaming world too.
