10 Most Immersive Open World Games
4. Red Dead Redemption 2
By this point there has been enough praise lavished upon Rockstar’s multi award-winning western Red Dead Redemption 2 that it would take weeks to talk about everything this game does right. Whether that be Arthur Morgan’s heart-wrenching tale of redemption, the phenomenal character-driven plot and performances, or the magnificent soundtrack that’s reminiscent of the Golden Age of western cinema, there’s a lot to love about this game.
Another one of RDR2’s triumphs is, of course, its expansive and wholly immersive open world that could keep players engrossed for hours on end. Alongside being an eye-widening example of artistry that's stuffed with activities to do, Rockstar took every step to ensure this world was as immersive as possible.
Unlike other open world games where players can zip across maps at superhuman speeds, Rockstar encourages players to take their time and soak in every detail around them at their own pace. Everything from brushing Arthur’s horse to polishing a pistol is purposely slow and methodical. Every interaction feels weighty and grounded in the world around it. It gives players a deeper connection with this world, with the result being one of the most immersive video game environments ever created.
