Mass Effect 3 might be renowned for how it failed to end things in the way that fans wanted, but there was something impressive with how the developers managed to say goodbye to Mordin Solus, a fan favorite ever since his introduction in Mass Effect 2. This was no Kaidan, whose death evoked little in the way of care, this was a Sassy Salarian who had a ton of personality and was incredibly useful in combat to boot.

However, as most of us know, he carried with him a dark past as well as the weight of what his people had done to the Krogans with their fertility nuke known as the Genophage. His actions and choices always seemed to come across as "doing what is right, no matter the road it takes to get there" and it's this attitude that leads him to sacrificing himself to undo the twisted bio weapon his people had unleashed.

As the Shroud is collapsing all around them, Mordin realises that in order to make sure the cure is released he needs to be at the helm making the final inputs. There is absolutely no chance of survival and no chance for the player to change his mind, but this is the right thing to do. And so with a final goodbye and a final song, Mordin sacrifices himself to heal past wounds.

Jules Gill hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
