10 Most INFURIATING Legend Of Zelda Dungeons

1. Temple Of The Ocean King

Zelda games are supposed to be about variety and exploring. The world usually consists of totally distinct regions, full of their own features and inhabitants. So when The Phantom Hourglass asked players to go through the same level over and over again, this did not sit well with some fans.

The Temple Of The Ocean King is the game’s centrepiece, a sprawling tower players must visit at least five times, primarily to fetch sea charts. The cursed dungeon drains Link’s energy the longer he stays in there, so the titular timekeeping device ticks away your life as you explore.

Each time you revisit the temple, the puzzles reset (Spirit Tracks uses a similar central dungeon, but once you’ve done something, it’s done for good). The aim of the game is to advance further each time, but you’re forced to do the same things on every occasion. It also incorporates stealth elements as you avoid Phantoms - not everyone’s cup of tea.

For some, this was a unique and enjoyable challenge emphasising strategy and time management. For others, it was just a trudge through the same level over and again.
