10 Most INFURIATING Legend Of Zelda Dungeons

3. Water Temple

Wind Waker Earth Temple
Nintendo

While the Water Temple is infamous for its player frustration, it’s by no means a bad temple. It’s not the most enjoyable part of Ocarina Of Time, admittedly, but there’s a lot to like: aesthetically it’s among the best in the game, and the Dark Link mini boss battle is a masterpiece of atmosphere.

Navigating it, however, can be nigh on unbearable. On the N64, it all comes down to the iron boots. Link must don the weighty footwear in order to descend underwater, but doing so requires the player to pause the game, go through the equipment screens, put them on, unpause, and repeat to take them off. In sequences which require quick level shifting, this is a major pain.

The 3DS remaster overcame this by attaching the boots to a button, but the frustration doesn’t end there. The level is simply a nightmare to get around, between the water level mechanics and the parade of small, often indistinct rooms.

Some enjoy the spike in difficulty in this dungeon; others very much don’t. The Water Temple certainly isn’t the failure some would have you believe - but finding your way around it can be a truly trying experience.
