10 Most Insane Video Game Leaks Ever
3. The Mario + Rabbids Leaks Everyone Thought Were Fake
A few weeks before it was officially unveiled at E3 2017, promotional materials for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle were leaked online, sending the Internet into a stunned frenzy.
Despite the glossiness of the leaked images, the idea of a Mario and Rabbids crossover seemed so preposterous that many, many fans sacked it off as nothing more than a well-executed fake.
They had egg on their face, then, when the game was confirmed at E3, and despite enormous skepticism about the project, it went on to become one of the best-reviewed games of the Switch's first year on the market.
It's extra hilarious considering that there were murmurs of the game's existence more than six months before the promo art was leaked, though naturally, few took it at all seriously.
The lessons here? Making promotional material this convincing is really difficult, and just because something seems ridiculous on paper, it doesn't mean it's not true.
