1.Super Mario 64
For a list dominated by Nintendo, there could be only one title which takes the top spot. The best launch game of all time is of course, Mario 64. The first proper 3D platform game is still probably the finest example of it and will probably stay that way for a very long time, many games have attempted to jump from 2D to 3D and absolutely none have done it with anywhere near the skill that Nintendo showed with this title. It retained everything that made the original 2D games so brilliant, from the enemies to the wonderful levels and the brilliant array of power-ups. Who can forget the first time they donned the winged cap and fired themselves out of the cannon in Bob-omb Battlefield? Gliding through the sky, performing loops and swooping across the ground was just one of the most perfect moments in gaming. A game which I still play at least once a year and one which has often topped list's for the greatest game of all time, it is hard to imagine that a console will ever launch alongside anything as wonderful as Super Mario 64. So there you have it, some absolute gems on there but can the PS4 or Xbox One launch with games that could trouble this list? Not long now until we find out.
