10 Most Inspired Launch Games Ever Released

3. Super Mario World

super_mario_world Nintendo are good at launch games aren't they? Makes you wonder what happened with the Wii U, however this game, their fifth entry on the list, is by far the best. Super Mario World launched alongside the SNES back in 1991 in the US and 1992 in Europe and remains to this day perhaps the finest example of platform gaming you will ever see (sorry, Sonic). It took the same basic formula of the original trilogy on the NES and updated and improved just about every single element. Firstly the graphical update was amazing, I remember thinking I was watching a cartoon the first time I saw this game and the visuals have held up remarkably well for a game that is now 21 years old. It wasn't all about the graphics though, Nintendo managed to perfect just about everything in the game, the levels were glorious, every bad guy was brilliantly realised, the music and sound effects were all amazing. Then on top of that they throw in Yoshi to just raise the awesomeness even higher. One of the greatest games ever made, let alone greatest launch titles.
