10 Most Memorable Side-Quests In RPG Game History

4. Far Cry 3 - Kick The Hornet's Nest

Post-apocalypse worlds, fictional medieval universes, or incredibly lifelike city recreations have generally dominated open world RPGs until Far Cry 3 came along with its brand of off-beat humor, a massive island to hunt endangered animals on, and extremely well-polished sandbox gameplay to completely forget that there is a story to complete. It's probably a testament to how well Ubisoft designed the game world when the main story missions and even the side-missions are eschewed in favor of hang-gliding sessions, shark-hunting, and off-road rallying. Except for one memorable side-mission. Taking a leaf out of GTA San Andreas' burning weed mission, 'Kick the Hornet's Nest' is Far Cry 3's version of a burning weed mission with its own hilarious twist. As you start burning all the weed with a flamethrower, the player character starts getting high. Really high. As the player character gets higher throughout the mission, he starts sprouting quips and getting inappropriately attached to his flamethrower whilst funky beats from Skrillex blast through the speakers. And the cherry on top of this mission? Aiming becomes hilariously more difficult as your character descends into something of a marijuana-induced nirvana of pyromania and bloodlust. Damn, if burning weed can be so much fun, RPGs should start inserting weed-centric missions into their games more often.

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
