10 Most Mourned Sports Video Games Franchises

9. NFL Street

Between 2000 and 2008 Electronic Arts had decided to take some risks with their sports franchises by introducing EA Sports BIG, which focused on extreme sports and innovative interpretations of traditional sports, generally under the “Street” name. The NFL games were one of the last to be discontinued, with NFL Tour making it onto the PS3 and Xbox 360. These focused on real NFL players being brought back to informal street football, with increased importance on flair and and a more rough and ready rule set.

Ultimately with Madden such a juggernaut in commercial terms, EA decided there was little point in being its own closest competition in the market at the at time. The end of NFL Street mirrors that of its FIFA and NBA counterparts, with small team and urban environment game modes now factored into the flagship sports games. The fact that there is more love for these older games as opposed to the likes of FIFA’s Volta or Madden’s The Yard go to show that these were games worthy of the attention paid to them as full releases in their own right.
