8. Citizen Sleeper

Jump Over the Age

Citizen Sleeper is a sci-fi visual novel where your character, who has a human mind emulated into a synthetic body, must flee from the corrupt corporation that created them. You must lay low, and perform tasks with locals to encourage them to aid you with your escape.

Despite the soundtrack and the gorgeous artwork, it's the relationships with the citizens that really make this game. Like Hades, interaction is always worthwhile since every conversation allows you to have a deeper understanding of the people around you.

Even though text-heavy tabletop titles are a niche market, Citizen Sleeper looked like it could be a hit due to its accessibility and addictive gameplay. But since it was released two weeks after Elden Ring, that release went mostly unnoticed.

This is a huge pity since developer, Gareth Damian Martin, put this entire thing together with little outside help. Do you know what's harder than making a video game by yourself? Making a game by yourself.. and it being amazing!!

Even if turn-based titles aren't your preference, you should give this one a shot. And if tabletop titles are your jam, Citizen Sleeper may be the best game you play this year.
