10 Most Pathetic Video Game Characters Ever

6. Samus (Metroid: Other M)

Few games have ruined a series protagonist the way Other M did.

Samus, who for a long time had been heralded as one of gaming's leading ladies for her silent demeanour, relentless hunting skills and willingness to rush into perilous situations, was turned into a useless, faux-deep idiot by Team Ninja.

Clearly the Dead or Alive: Beach Volleyball crew were not a good fit to be trusted with the duty of giving Samus a good personality.

Gone was the quiet time and intense action that Metroid was known for. In its place were nonstop monologues and barking orders from an offscreen authority, because apparently Samus has to answer to a man now. What was supposed to be a story about how Samus learns to cope with the trauma and loss that Ridley forced upon her, instead became this faux-feminist narrative about how much Samus needs approval from a male authority figure.

This character downgrade has made fans publicly disregard the game from the series, and Nintendo distanced themselves from Team Ninja alongside, instead only trusting them with low stakes endeavours like the Dynasty Warriors spinoffs for Zelda and Fire Emblem.
