10 Most Predatory Loot Box & Microtransaction Systems In Video Games

9. Destiny 2

Destiny 2 Bright Engram
Bungie

Until very recently, Destiny 2 looked to be escaping 2017 relatively unscathed. Bungie's premiere shooter is known for being very grind-heavy with all sorts of tie-in sponsorship deals easing the burden of running the same missions 10 times for better loot, but progression is still inherently random.

See, on the 25th of November a notable swell in fan complaints highlighted the fact that the game's XP levelling was actually bugged - intentionally rewarding players with the same numerical amounts on screen, yet their progress bars increased slower.

Why? Because Destiny's progression is predicated on unlocking blind box-style "Bright Engrams", which after hitting the soft level cap of 20, are given every time you max out your experience bar.

More grinding means more incentive to splash out on Engrams with real money, yet thankfully, Bungie have responded by "doing an EA", admitting to the forced grind/lower gain trade-off, and turning it off.

Still, the fact remains:

If an Engram doesn't give you what you want, run the same missions an endless amount of times more - or you can purchase some pulls of the lever instead.
