It's rare that Ubisoft releases a game without a tidal wave of promotional coverage and hype surrounding it. Yet with all eyes on Far Cry Primal, this competitive multiplayer hack-'n-slasher has so far received surprisingly little attention (by Ubisoft's standards anyway). Which is a shame, because For Honor is one of the most unique-looking AAA games of recent years, casting you as a soldier from one of three distinct medieval factions. The factions are samurai, vikings and knights (the stuff of all our hypothetical historical showdown fantasies, rather than reality) who go up against each other in large-scale battles in competitive multiplayer arenas. The multiplayer aspect of the game is 4-vs-4, while the rest of the battlefield is filled with hundreds of AI soldiers. So far, we've only seen the domination-like Dominion mode in action, which entails capturing and holding key points on the map. The combat system, dubbed "Art of Battle", will allow players to enter one-on-one duels against other players on the battlefield, relying on precise moves that involve weapon swings from multiple angles, sussing out enemy weak-points, and timing defensive manoeuvres to perfection. Home consoles are yet to get a competitive medieval slasher, and For Honor has the potential to not only fill that void, but go a step further and be the best game of its type yet.
