10 Most Promising PlayStation VR Games Coming In 2016
3. RIGS Mechanized Combat League The more I see of this futuristic shooter/sports game, the more it looks like it could offer a captivating, addictive experience comparable to indie sensation Rocket League. Of course, wearing a VR headset and playing RIGS for the same amount of time as Rocket League would probably give you a brain aneurysm eventually, but the whole futuristic battle-sport theme could be a winner. Each match consists of two teams of agile bipedal robots controlled by humans strapped into the front of them. Gameplay-wise, this looks like a particularly high-speed version of a mech-combat game, as you'll need to get to grips with controlling the formidable machines, and get used to their various guns and abilities. It certainly looks like a steeper learning curve than your average arena shooter. The main mode we've heard about in RIGS is a kind of mech-basketball game, except each player is essentially the ball, and points are scored by jumping through hoops at the opponent's end of the arena. Shooting, movement and jumping are set to be the key mechanics here, and the devs want to create an experience with plenty of last-second drama, defensive heroics and memorable 'Goals'. In other words, they're aiming to replicate the emotions that made Rocket League such a hit. RIGS is the first competitive online game to utilise PlayStation VR, and it'll be a big test of whether the headset is much good for twitchy, fast-paced gameplay, or if it'll just lead to tons of neck injuries from excessive movement, and subsequent lawsuits against Sony.
