10 Most Tragic Characters In Horror Games

8. Lisa Trevor - Resident Evil (2002)

The Resident Evil series has seen countless characters, from major players to the most seemingly unimportant NPCs, fall victim to viruses. Typically, they’ve transformed into horrific abominations in the process (William Birkin’s gigantic eyeball-arm comes vividly to mind). As villainous as some of the series’ antagonists undoubtedly are, few of them deserve that.

Even worse, though, are the fates of those who were largely innocent. With this in mind, Lisa Trevor’s may have been the most horrendous in the franchise.

Lisa and her mother Jessica Trevor were kidnapped and imprisoned in the depths of the Spencer Mansion, detained and experimented upon to test the effects of the Progenitor virus. Lisa’s mother was killed in an attempt to escape her captivity, leaving her daughter, who was more profoundly affected by the virus, to gradually lose much of her humanity. After years of this torture, and with her virus-ravaged body and mind posing a considerable threat (she had an unfortunate habit of trying to collect womens’ faces looking for that of her mother), those leading the research ordered her death, but she was denied even that peace when she returned to life.

When the player encounters her in the Resident Evil remake, she is a mutated being who is able to sponge enormous damage. She pursues the player in the winding underground until her boss battle, in which the practical approach is to push away each of the pillars around the room, thus revealing the grave of Jessica Trevor. The sight causes the still-grief-stricken creature that was one Lisa to jump into the crevasse below.
