Amanda the Adventurer may start off as a tribute act to TV's most famous language tutor, but it doesn't take long for the experience to start going off the rails. After all, Dora never came across a dead fox and asked the audience "What do you think killed him? The gun, the knife, or the poisonous berries on this bush?" To paraphrase Hank Hill, "That girl ain't right", and it's the player's job to uncover the truth behind her actions. Actually doing so will only take about 90 minutes - perfect horror-movie length - and it's a journey worth undertaking.
Learning exactly what happened to Amanda provides the backdrop for one of 2023's most memorable stories, and Amanda herself - with her blend of doe-eyed innocence and increasingly demonic behaviour - is one of the year's most arresting antagonists.
