10 Most Underrated N64 Games Ever

5. Goemon’s Great Adventure

For platform games, the N64 might be the best console of all time. While Mario 64 and the offerings from Rare are the best remembered of the console’s lifespan, the throwback Goemon's Great Adventure is a must play for any fans of running, jumping, and collecting.

With its 2.5D linear style, it can’t hold a candle to the complexity of your Marios and your Banjos, but in terms of charm, humour, and level design, it ticks all the boxes. Goemon is a delightful protagonist, surely due a revisit (or at least a Smash Bros cameo) and is used to great effect in this throwback platformer. You can feel the love in the detail packed into this game, from the feudal Japanese backdrops and music to the primitive day and night system which sets Goemon's Great Adventure apart from the 16 bit games it emulates.

Goemon starred in a 3D title prior to this, but that can’t help but pale in contrast to the console’s superior open world platformers. This one is in a league of its own, and is one of the best pure platforming experiences available on the console.
