10 Most Useless Weapons In The Fallout Universe

Save yourself the energy and avoid these weapons.

When it comes to RPG games such as the Fallout series, everyone likes to always talk about the best weapons in the game (and let's face it, there's a lot of them!), but no-one ever talks about the number of utterly useless weapons that feature throughout the series.

Now useless is a relatively subjective term especially in the context of role-playing games as there are so many different character builds that there’s likely a playstyle that fits the majority of the weapons that litter the game world.

However, despite this there are still some weapons that are only useful in the most niche of character builds or if you’re attempting a challenge run, forcing your character to only use certain weapons. It’s also worth noting that the weapons mentioned here are not the legendary variants but the standard garden-variety weapons available to the player.

By now you will likely know that the Fallout series started life as an Isometric RPG before moving to a first-person RPG with Fallout 3. This makes comparing the weapons between different entries difficult, however just like charging at a Deathclaw armed with nothing more than a set of Brass Knuckles and wearing a set of Sexy Sleepwear we are always up for a challenge.

So let’s take a look at ten of the most useless weapons in the Fallout series.

10. Spear - Fallout 2

Fallout 2 features one of the most challenging and nerve-testing opening sequences in a videogame ever. Allowing you to create your character however you see fit and then forcing you into a challenging section with only a melee weapon to fend off enemies is a cruel jest from the developers. For those that started the post-apocalyptic isometric RPG planning for their character to make use of ranged weapons instead of melee, the Temple of Trials will likely trigger traumatic flashbacks of moments when their attacks with the Spear missed their target.

The Spear is not necessarily a useless weapon as it will be the only weapon available to the player at the beginning of the game, however, your experience will likely be dependent on what you chose as your starting stats. Even those that favored melee weapons for their playthrough the Spear were likely quickly replaced by more powerful weapons not long after completing the Temple of Trials.
