10 Nasty Video Game Levels Designed To Torture You

4. Farron Keep - Dark Souls III

Underwater mission
FromSoftware

Blighttown, but so much worse, Farron Keep continues FromSoft's apparent love of gimping the player's movement, only this time, there are no shortcuts or special accessories to hasten your exit, Miyazaki made damn sure of that, this time around.

To nudge the door to the Abyss Watchers' domain open and get your Ashen One's feet back on solid ground, you'll have to kindle three fires scattered about the dank, samey-looking swamp, all while contending with the usual menagerie of twisted beasts intent on spoiling your day.

Only, none of your assailants are required to play by the same rules - they have freedom of movement where you don't - so yeah, have fun getting ripped a new one by super agile ghouls and tree trunk-wielding Bloodborne rejects while your character moves at a snail's pace.

For a series that prides itself on providing a genuine challenge to the player, artificial difficulty like this just comes off as lazy and uninspired. We expect better of you, FromSoft!
