6. Tree Sentinel - Elden Ring
It wouldn’t be a list about difficult boss fights without an entry on a FromSoftware game who are quite literally responsible for pages of responses when you Google search “hard video game bosses”. That’s not a cheeky opening line, it’s fact.
The first enemy every player encounters in Elden Ring outside of the tutorial, guaranteed, is the Tree Sentinel. It sets the stage for the game, especially for those who have never touched a FromSoftware title up until that point, by absolutely battering anyone that comes close enough.
Bold and/or stubborn players will see this immediate challenge and face it down for as long as it takes however. But, despite being the first enemy in the game, the intention is not for player’s to overcome it until much later. Get yourself a good few level-ups and a horse and you stand a much better chance. You’re better off not trying to brute force this one.
The entire concept of the Tree Sentinel is that it’s placed there to basically force players to go elsewhere - to show them that, unlike Dark Souls and Bloodborne, this is not a linear experience. If you get absolutely rocked by a creature, it’s okay to look for another path and explore somewhere else.
I mean, you’re probably just going to get mauled by whatever lurks there too but that’s the FromSoft experience for you.
