10 New Game Plus Features We Should've Started With

9. Face Paint - Horizon Zero Dawn

Star Wars Jedi Survivor
Guerrilla Games

Face paints in Horizon Zero Dawn are an almost hilariously trivial cosmetic feature, and yet one which many players would love to experiment with right out of the box.

After all, there's no perceptible narrative or gameplay reason to keep players at arm's length from this feature, and yet, Guerrilla Games decided to hide it behind not one but two playthroughs.

That's right - in order to give Aloy customisable face paint, you need to beat the game, and then beat a New Game Plus playthrough. And to make it feel like even more of a chore, that second run has to be on Hard difficulty or higher.

Only on your third playthrough can you access the face paint, by which point you'll likely have had your fill of the experience anyway and be ready to move on.

Thankfully Guerrilla at least changed this for sequel Horizon Forbidden West, with players instead unlocking face paint throughout the story, as can be applied by a Painter at any of the game's settlements.
