We couldn't rightly have a list about notoriously difficult levels without paying a visit to one of the most notoriously difficult games in recent memory. Dark Souls has its fair share of frustrating and notorious levels. Blightown and Tomb of the Giants have quenched their fair share of hopeful adventurers, but none has garnered quite the notorious reputation than Anor Londo.

While the level is rather simplistic in nature, there are three infamous points that have rippled through gaming culture and cemented its difficulty. The rafters: a series of thin walkways, chock full of enemies with ranged attacks. The Silver Knight Archers: enemies posted high on a ledge designed to knock you to an instant death. And Ornstein and Smough: one of gaming's most notoriously difficult bosses.
