Bethesda doesn't have the best record when it comes to bugs and glitches, but that doesn't really excuse them when these issues prevent you from progressing through their game. Especially when it comes in the form of an annoying old man ignoring your existence with every cell in his body.

There are a number of reasons why so many people dislike the Blades in Skyrim. Aside from Delphine's attitude and the fact they want you to kill Paarthurnax, one of these issues is a bug that Esbern, the brains of the operation, can inflict upon you to keep you from finishing the game.

After you do all the work for the Blades and get them to their headquarters, Esbern will take Delphine to a giant wall in the back of their base and then just sort of stare at it indefinitely, making it impossible to speak with him and progress through the main quest.

To prevent this from happening and ruining your playthrough, you have to be careful not to walk too far away from Esbern when he starts giving his lectures on ancient history.

It's almost like he knows he's boring you, and he breaks your game to spite you for not listening.
