9. If It's An Indie, It's Probably Not Very Good

super meat boy Prior to the onset of PSN and XBLA supporting indie gaming in recent years, it really was an ephemeral thing, something that was traded around on floppy disks in the Amiga days, and had a minor following with the Net Yaroze on the PlayStation. Outside of the home computer, though, indie games never took off until Sony and Microsoft provided a viable platform for programmers, often one-man operations working out of their homes, with no disposable income to pay steep publishing and manufacturing costs. Games like Super Meat Boy, Trials, Flower and Journey have proven just how brilliant indie games can be, from both an artistic and gameplay perspective, such that each of them received stronger reviews than the vast majority of industrially-produced titles. To shut yourself off from this content simply because it's not available in stores, costs peanuts and might not have as advanced graphics as Crysis, is to deny yourself masses of superb content. Thankfully, indie gaming is becoming so pervasive that this trend seems to be bucking...
