10 Obvious Video Game Remakes The Industry Is Ignoring
8. Viewtiful Joe
It's ironic how cel-shaded video games were met with such disdain at first, considering they age so beautifully. Okami and Wind Waker toon art still look stunning now, even though they came out in the early 2000s.
With that in mind, Capcom should give Viewtiful Joe another look. Released back in 2003, this wacky beat 'em up was recognised for its luscious aesthetic, cheeky humour, and brutal boss fights.
But Joe's biggest selling point was how the gameplay incorporates film themes in inventive ways. You can zoom in to make your punches and kicks bigger, fast-forward to smash your enemies to dust, and dodge attacks by activating slow-motion. These mechanics were also implemented into the puzzles, forcing you to put your thinking cap on if you hope to unlock doors and obtain artefacts.
Viewtiful Joe didn't sell well, but it made enough to generate a sequel. Although Viewtiful Joe 2 ended on a cliffhanger, it sales were lower than Capcom expected, forcing the company to cancel the proposed threequel.
Even though fans are still pushing for Viewtiful Joe 3, it might be more sensible to overhaul the original, rather than continuing the plot from an 18-year-old game.
Come on, Capcom. You've made a bajillion dollars on Resident Evil and Monster Hunter. Take a chance by redoing one of your most underrated titles.
