10 Optional Bosses Who Kicked Your Ass In Seconds

4. Charon - Hades

Father Rodin Bayonetta
Supergiant Games

Players can initiate a secret boss fight against Hades' shopkeeper Charon by agreeing to "borrow" 300 Obols from him, whereby you'll be transported into another room where the fight begins.

Like Mr. Shakedown, Charon makes up for his lack of speed with huge amounts of health and absurdly powerful attacks, his Oar Swipe causing massive damage while his various wave attacks can also stun and disorientate players.

As Charon's health is depleted, he will also destroy some of the golden pillars scattered around the room you could previously use for cover.

The only real mercy, then, is that the battle ends when Charon's health drops to 20%, but even so, getting there sure is no picnic.

In the event you do manage to fell Charon, though, he'll give you a Loyalty Card granting you 20% off his wares, and also allow you to keep the aforementioned 300 Obols.
