10 Outrageously Inventive Video Game Weapons

2. GLOO Cannon – Prey

Prey Gloo Cannon

The art deco decks of the Talos I space station have been overrun by escaped alien test subjects known as the Typhon, and you’ll need to use all the tools at your disposal to survive the onslaught. Fortunately, Prey has one key weapon that’s a dozen tools in one.

Meet the Gellifoam Lattice Organism Obstructor, or GLOO Cannon for short. It fires globs of foam that harden on impact, meaning Typhon coated with enough GLOO freeze in place temporarily, letting you strike at the alien aggressor without fear of repercussions.

Now that you’ve exterminated every extra-terrestrial in the immediate vicinity, it’s time to harness the GLOO Cannon’s other strength: environment traversal. Because GLOO can stick to surfaces, you can use it to build your own structures, effectively granting the player the ability to dynamically mould the level design to their liking.

Useful supplies on the other side of a chasm? Use a stream of GLOO to create a bridge! Stairs up to the second floor broken? No problem, just build your own! The GLOO cannon’s creative potential and sheer utility both in and out of combat make it the ideal choice for any astronaut in a sticky situation.

Nobody's convinced... but nobody's told him that yet. He spends his spare time working on Portal 2: Desolation, an ambitious fan-made sequel to Valve's beloved puzzle games.
