10 Overhyped Games From 2012 That Actually Sucked

5. I Am Alive

I Am Alive has been in production since 2003, so you'd think for a game that they've been working on this long for it would be good. Yeh, right. Although I did complete the game it took me a while, purely because I told myself that since I've wasted a few hours on it I might as well finish it. The gameplay is clunky, the graphics are downright terrible, actually to go off on a tangent here let me explain the graphics of I Am Alive.

Imagine designing a massive city level, you've got all your skyscrapers sorted, cars on the streets, shops and houses and so on. You then take a page from Bethesda book and drop a bomb on the place so that all the buildings turn into ruins. You take another page from Bethesda and drop some dust on the place, however you don't do this just once...no no no. What Darkworks and Ubisoft have done is created an area that is so dusty that it is literally impossible to see any of the level designers work unless you climb to the very top of the highest buildings. Even then all you see are a few buildings poking out of the dust. They haven't even put any effort into the story, all we know about the ruins and dusty mess is that an event occurred one year prior. No explanation about said event, we don't know whether it was an earthquake or a bomb or an alien invasion, just that it was an event called "the event." Evidently the talented writers on both teams were killed off by said event. They've tried to form a Prince of Persia meets Uncharted gameplay and ended up with a clunky mess that will frustrate you throughout the game. The amount of times my stamina ran out due to unresponsive or slow controls and the amount of times my character got stuck whilst walking and climbing made me remove the game from my PS3 many times. I did eventually finish the game purely through sheer force of will only to be given an unsatisfying ending that was the game equivalent of being slapped in the face with a cod, not even a fresh one. Although a few companies did give it poor reviews, the vast majority praised the tone and gameplay. Whether they actually played the game is anyone's guess, I'd suggest they consult their local health centre as the amount of the dust in the game has clearly clouded their thoughts.
