10 Overlooked PS4 Horror Gems You're Missing Out On
2. SOMA
On the surface, Soma doesn't look all that different from a whole host of other stealth-horror games out there. That's partly because the developers were responsible for creating Amnesia: The Dark Descent, but the base gameplay is where the similarities between the two titles end.
The story follows Simon, a man suffering from a terminal illness who undergoes a mind-mapping experiment that results in him waking up hundreds of years in the future. While that means he managed to avoid death, the life-saving operation resulted in him regaining consciousness in a decaying world, where humans have been driven under the sea and are being tormented by a twisted A.I.
Without spoiling too much, the plot reaches a conclusion that's one of the most affecting of the decade. It's harrowing, resonant yet strangely hopeful, and if stealth isn't your thing, there's now the option to remove the threat of enemies entirely.
