10 Overlooked PS4 Horror Gems You're Missing Out On

9. Outlast 2

The original Outlast made waves by blending Amnesia-style stealth horror with found-footage tropes, but an unintended consequence of its overnight success meant that the inevitable sequel would always be in its shadow.

Instead of trying to simply repeat the formula that worked so well the first time, for the follow up developers at Red Barrels attempted to reinvent the series by introducing more surreal horror elements and swapping out the claustrophobic hallways of the original asylum for wide-open woods in Northern Arizona.

Not every idea worked, but the new abstract method of storytelling did contribute to a fascinating horror plot. Throw in a couple crucifixions, apocalyptic dreams and plenty of genital mutilation, and you were left with a game that crept its way into your mind long after you put it down.
