10 Overlooked Video Games By Great Publishers
6. Déraciné - FromSoftware
There's no denying that FromSoftware are best known for their tricky action-RPGs like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Elden Ring, and also the Armored Core franchise.
But in 2018, sandwiched between the releases of Dark Souls III and Sekiro, the publisher quietly dropped an unassuming first-person adventure game which paid homage to their cult classic 1998 game Echo Night.
Déraciné, an existential mystery title for PSVR, sees players wandering the halls of a boarding school as a fairy, and while admittedly lacking the technical finesse of FromSoftware's AAA offerings, turned out to be a highly affecting and engrossing effort.
As an exercise in atmosphere and emotional environmental storytelling, it's a hugely unsung treat, yet even accepting the audience-limiting nature of its PSVR-exclusive release, this thing came and went in a blip.
So, if you've got Sony's VR headset and can drag yourself away from Elden Ring for a hot minute, Déraciné is more than deserving of five hours of your time.
