10 Overlooked Ways ALL Video Game Studios Could Improve

1. Every Position Requiring Relocation

It makes sense to want to have your studio in one of the big cities. But, believe it or not, there are more cities in the UK than just Edinburgh, London, Glasgow or Birmingham.

I know, mental, right?

I get these agent emails - nice people, actually, but relentless - who keep finding games industry jobs for me to apply for. However, they’re almost always in Edinburgh or London. Nothing against those places, like (well, except London, which is the Greyest Place On Earth), but I’d rather not live there.

Despite huge strides to spread a bit across the country (with some very big moves made in Dundee, by the way), the vast majority of studios will almost certainly require you to relocate, unless you live in one of those four major hubs.

It’s like... I know when you think of certain studios, you think of specific locations - CD Projekt RED and Poland, for example. But imagine one of these studios opening a branch right near you, or the nearest city. Sure, the location wouldn’t be as synonymous or instantly resonant with their signature geography or perhaps cultural ticks, but it would get 100% of the business.

Doesn’t that sound more appealing than the notion of abandoning your friends and family to even take a shot?
