10 Painfully Slow Openings That Nearly Ruined Great Video Games

6. Borderlands 2

Who doesn't love Borderlands 2? The offbeat, dry humour. The insane arsenal of weaponry - I mean, a shotgun that shoots exploding knives, hell yeah! The couch co-op. The weaponry. Handsome Jack. The weaponry. All in all, Borderlands 2 is a really solid and extremely fun loot shooter. But Claptrap is the absolute worst. And how does Borderlands 2 open up? Following Claptrap.

The Vault Hunter finds themselves stranded in a snowy tundra, forced to obey the will of Claptrap, guides you around the barren starting area. Although the bullymongs found there - the four armed yeti things - are fun enemies, between endless waves of them and Claptrap calling you a minion , there's only so much you can take before you switch off.

Truly the game doesn't really get going until you make it to Sanctuary, and everything before that has been completely arbitrary. The starting area is empty and lifeless, the random side quests aren't a whole lot of fun to partake in, level progression moves at a crawl, and the there's not even any cool, wacky loot to keep you interested.

Borderlands 2 is a much beloved game, but not for the opening, that's for sure. It's not a good representation of the fun to be had later down the line.
