10 Phenomenal Video Games NOBODY Bought
7. Sunset Overdrive (2014)
Set to be a flagship title for the Xbox One, Insomniac's Sunset Overdrive proudly wore its charismatic personality on its sleeve as it saw us bounce and zip around Sunset City while eliminating gooey, energy drink monsters.
Traversal was just as snappy as the writing; it was simply an all-round blast to play. It's understandable, then, why this Xbox exclusive launched to rave reviews, and why Microsoft seemed to hope that this game would help boost the sales of their new console.
But this wasn't the case. Despite having everything going for it, Sunset Overdrive reportedly only shifted a disappointing 1.16 million copies to customers. For comparison, Insomniac's Infamous Second Son launched the same year and sold more units in its first 9 days.
The reason for this game's disappointing performance was likely due to a combination of Microsoft's notoriously mishandled launch of the Xbox One, alongside confusing marketing. Though the trailers and snippets of gameplay we were shown at the time looked flashy and entertaining, nobody knew exactly what the game was.
With the title still included as part of Xbox Game Pass, curious players still have the chance to dive into this wild ride to see exactly what they missed.
