In 2006 the Wii changed the face of gaming and forced everyone else to play catch up as Wii consoles flew off the shelf in such huge numbers that, once again, Sony and Microsoft wanted in on the bandwagon.
Microsoft went with the Kinect and removed all handheld peripherals and had some success. Sony went the other way and tried to compete with Nintendo and beat them at their own game. Surprisingly, they did. The PlayStation Move was actually more accurate than the Wii, but fans did not adopt the technology the way Sony wanted.
Gamers would have to also purchase the PlayStation Eye camera in order to track Sony's motion controls. While Sony fans were excited for their own motion controls, not many wanted to shell out for another piece of tech that they weren't likely to use in any other way.
Again, a lack of long term staying power failed the PlayStation Move as developers stopped making games and fans were left with expensive chunks of plastic and outdated games they had grown bored with.
