10 Pokémon Who Deserve Mega Evolutions
4. Hypno
Way back in the Kanto games, Psychic types ran the world. A glitch made them invulnerable to Ghost, while the only Ghost Pokémon were dual Poison, making them weak to Psychic anyway. Gen II added Dark type, fixed the glitch and generally nerfed Psychic, but it remains a hugely powerful typing.
In Kanto, this meant Hypno or Alakazam were pretty much necessities on your team, and as such both became fairly iconic 'mons. Hypno had a dark, childsnatching backstory, while Alakazam's moustache and spoon made it memorable.
Alakazam was more powerful, but needed to be traded to evolve, so Hypno was a decent option. Now that Hypno has no Mega to rival Alakazam's though, it's no longer a reliable alternative.
On the topic of Alakazam, Machamp deserves an honorable mention too. Along with those two, Golem and Gengar form the quartet of evolutionary trades from Gen I. Alakazam and Gengar both got Megas (Gengar's being arguably the most popular ever), while Golem was revitalised with an Alolan form.
Machamp has such great stats that saying it deserves a Mega is probably too far, but it still seems unfair that it's the only one of the original foursome left in the dust.
