10 Popular Video Games You Can't Play Anymore
2. Minecraft: Story Mode
The combo of Telltale’s unfortunate shut down in 2018 as well as the difficulties with continuing to sell games that require expensive licences was bound to hit many of the studio’s popular series pretty hard.
As we’ve well and truly learned this far down the list, it’s a needle to thread between capitalising off a popular IP to pull in an existing audience for a game and needing to actually purchase a licence to said IP for all of the years you intend to support and sell said game. In the case of both seasons of Minecraft: Story Mode, the game was one of the many victims of the aforementioned studio closure due to bankruptcy in mid-2019, upon which it disappeared from storefronts. Though the studio has since been revived, many of the licences to the various Telltale Games’ IPs were not renewed. If you’ve got it downloaded already, you’re good to go, otherwise you’re out of luck.
The game was available between the end of 2018 and the end of 2022 on Netflix but has since disappeared off there too. Because it’s 2024. This entry is really not riddled with the hottest or most useful of takes.
