1. It Ends On Yet Another Cliffhanger - Shenmue III

The Twist: The long-gestating sequel doesn't resolve Ryu's quest for revenge against his father's killer Lan Di, and instead leaves players on yet another agonising cliffhanger for the proposed fourth entry into the series.

Why It Could Ruin The Game: Because fans have been waiting so long to see Ryu face off against Lan Di, and to distend this out for yet another game would feel like a crass manipulation of players who helped Kickstart the game in order to get some damn closure. Asking them to cough up more cash for another game would just be cruel at this point.

How Likely Is It?: Yu Suzuki has already stated that Shenmue III will be left somewhat open for a potential Shenmue IV, but that doesn't mean the game needs to leave fans high and dry regarding Ryu's current quest. Expect certain aspects of the story to be left up in the air and a tease towards further adventures, but it's hard to imagine him not paying off Ryu vs. Lan Di in case the game ultimately isn't a commercial success. Fans would riot. 4/10
