10 Powerful Video Game Endings That Gave You Chills
6. Undertale
On the surface, Undertale is initially nothing more than a cute little adventure game where you kill monsters in a shadowy underworld, strike up some banter with oddball characters, and ultimately try to get back to your parents. Nothing is quite as it appears though, and all the way through the rug is pulled out as the game reveals that your actions - and the actions of everyone in this world - have consequences.
Still, you're encouraged to kill your enemies as you would in any other video game (there is a non-lethal way to finish every combat encounter, but it's markedly more difficult and not fully explained), until just before you reach the finale.
Through combat, you'll have accrued "EXP" and health in the form of "LOVE", but just before the final fight it's revealed that these acronyms stand for "execution points" and "level of violence" respectively, and you're informed that you've essentially caused needless, untold havoc for these monsters that were otherwise going about their business.
You've then got to fight the final, final boss in the form of the benevolent Flowey, but the "are we the baddies?" style revelation just prior hits like a freight train.
