10 Problems With Pokémon Gold & Silver Nobody Wants To Admit

9. The Absence Of Classic Legendaries

Pokemon Gold Silver
Nintendo

Roaming Pokémon may have robbed us of half the fun of working through a particularly tough area to find a mighty monster waiting at the end for us to test our skills as a trainer against, but at least once we got to Kanto the original trio and almighty Mewtwo were waiting there for us to...wait no, that was the remakes, the remakes were smart enough to offer us that.

While this problem was indeed rectified in HeartGold & SoulSilver, the decision to remove all four original Legendary Pokémon from the Kanto region robbed the endgame of serious content and was dumber than any plan Team Rocket ever concocted. Oh, what's that? Since the games are canonical with Red & Blue then they have already been captured by the time Gold & Silver roll around? Well shut up with your fool words and take a long sip of idiot tea because this decision was not one that came out of the strong logical story telling Pokémon is sooo renowned for (did I elongate enough for you to see my sarcasm there?).

Though the story thread lends credence to their absence, we all know that their exclusion was to make sure players needed to trade with Pokémon Red & Blue to fuel the franchise fetish of player connectivity. Thankfully Nintendo clearly went to therapy in the ten years between Gold & Silver and their remakes because there is none of that nonsense present.

And just to warn you now, gimmick influenced mechanics compromising the overall product will be a recurring feature on this list. It's almost like no one was telling the creators "no".
